Hi There, I’m Rebecca – the
one who keeps everything in the Essential office flowing smoothly.
I’m a Canadian student, soon to be PhD (yay! Finally) who moved to London just under four years ago from lovely Eastern Canada. Aside from a penchant for organizing things I am a bona fide sociologist fascinated by all things social and cultural. My academic interests include consumer culture, the media landscape, and visual methodologies. My dissertation , an ethnography of toy collecting, examines collecting communities, their hierarchies of authenticity, and nostalgia in an effort to better understand the nuances of our relation to the material world. To get to the point – I use my findings to comment on and contribute to what other theorists of material culture have to say.
When I’m not in the office or writing about collectors I spend a fair amount of time online looking at some favourite websites, like this, this and this, as well as reading, travelling and fiddling around with my i-phone.
