Meet Daniel

I am the newest member of the team. I joined in June 2009 from a think tank called the Hansard Society where I was working on a project on behalf of the Electoral Commission looking at how the internet, and web 2.0 technologies in particular, are used during political campaigns. I joined at a busy time and got straight into a project for the BBC.

I have worked on the TV and Film production team of an Intellectual Property company and at a European executive search organization. The best job I have ever had was one I did for free – working as a project officer on a conservation scheme in Fiji. I yearn to live somewhere the sun shines all day, all year.

I studied Anthropology at UCL and focused on the social side – writing my dissertation on the IRA’s use of violence throughout the 80’s and 90’s. I am really interested in the use of cross-over methodologies like ethnography and the use of video.

My mum tells me I was a ‘water baby’ and I do love the sea. While growing up, I wore clothes made only by surf companies like Quicksilver and RipCurl but I didn’t surf. Always wanted to but the closest I got was buying a body board and trying to stay out of everyone’s way. So I learnt (friends who have seen me at the end of the day when I am tired, say “ish”) and whenever possible, I go to Cornwall. The romance of the whole thing is undercut by the temperature of the water and fighting with a wetsuit, but I love it.
