Today we decided to say goodbye to our binder. (Shout quickly if you want one – it’s off to Freecyle shortly.) I felt strangely resistant to this. As a grad trainee, learning to use the binder was pretty much Point 1 on the induction plan. So the fact that our binder is now redundant feels like a seminal moment, and it’s got to be a good thing.
But in an era of digitised insight, we have to work even harder to cut through all the noise – how many attachments are in your email inbox right now? – and to provide the physical materials (or “leave-behinds”) that help to ensure our ideas live on well after the debrief. The infographics showcase at yesterday’s Research 2011 Conference showed just how much the bar has been raised in that respect.
